Respect in Sport for Parents

KMBA is mandating that at least one parent from each family complete the Respect in Sport (RIS) for Parent Program online course.

Respect in Sport for Parents defines a standard of behaviour for all parents & creates a more rewarding, safe & respectful environment for everyone involved. It empowers parents to:

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of their children.
  • Encourage proper communication with officials and coaches.
  • Make sport and recreation result in a positive experience for all.

We all need to do our part supporting kids in sports.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ's)

  • How is Respect in Sport implemented
    The Respect in Sport Parent Program is presented as an online curriculum and includes audio/visual presentations.

 

  • Is there a paper version of the program
    No. It's an online course.

 

  • Is there a fee for this course and how long does it take?
    The course is $12 per family and takes approximately 1 hour

 

  • Does KMBA reimburse the $12?
    No. KMBA will not provide reimbursement.

 

  • Do both parents have to take the course?No. Ideally we would like both parents to take the course but do not expect families to pay twice. One parent must take the course.

 

  • Do I still need to take RIS for Parents if I have RIS for Activity Leaders?
    If you have a valid RIS for Activity Leader certification, RIS for Parents in not required. If both parents in the home have a valid RIS for Activity Leaders certificaiton, RIS for Parents is not required. If only one parent in the home has RIS for Activity Leaders certifcaiton, we ask the other parent to complete the RIS for Parents.

 

  • Do I have to do the course all at once?No. The online course is designed to allow you to complete at your leisure. The program remembers where you left off and brings you back to that point when you next sign in. The course must be completed before your player may step onto the field.

Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders

KMBA has mandated that coaches, assistant coaches and parent leaders complete the Respect in Sport (RIS) for Activity Leaders online course.

Your division coordinator will give you a prepaid code to use to cover the cost of the course.

The Respect in Sport Activity Leader/Coach Program offers an engaging and easy-to-use online training course for sport leaders of all levels. The intent of this training is to:

  • Empower and educate youth leaders/coaches on the prevention of abuse, bullying, harassment and discrimination.
  • Build a holistic culture of respect within the sport community.
  • Provide fundamental training tools which enable ALL coaches and youth leaders to become even better role models for the young athletes in their care.
